Questions
What is therapy and how can it help me?
Therapy provides a safe and supportive environment where you can explore your emotions, thoughts, and experiences with a trained professional, ultimately leading to personal growth and improved well-being
Do you provide in-person or online counseling?
I provide both in person and online counseling. In person is recomended for kids and teenagers, though we can always discuss if virtual is needed. Many adults prefer in-person, but sometimes the convenience of virtual makes sense in today's busy world. Together we can make sure sessions are taking place as needed.
How long does therapy take?
The duration of therapy varies greatly depending on individual needs, goals, and the type of therapy. Some people find relief in a few sessions, while others may need ongoing support for months or even years. Therapy can be time-limited (with a set number of sessions) or open-ended, depending on the therapist and the client's needs.
What can I expect during my first session?
I'll meet you at your scheduled time either at the office or online. (If you come in-person, I will send you directions for the office location, as well as how to access free parking for your appointment time).
In our first session, we'll talk about what's bringing you to therapy, your goals, and how we can work together to achieve them.
You can ask any questions about the therapy process during a free 15-minute consultation (over the phone or in person), in our first meeting, or anytime during your treatment.
Sessions are typically 50 minutes.
Payment,
Insurance, and Scheduling
How do I pay for therapy sessions?
Session fees are agreed upon in advance and billed at time of service. Payment will be autodrafted from payment method on file the same day as service. You may change your payment method anytime in your client portal.
Will my insurance cover the sessions?
Insurance is dependent on your provider and diagnosis. I am happy to talk further about each case individually and whether insurance can be applied, or how a superbill can be given for reimbursement.
What is your cancellation policy?
Clients must give at least 24 hour notice for cancelled appointments. Failure to cancel appointments in advance will result in a fully charged session.
Finding the Right Therapist
How can I tell if you are the right therapist for me?
Your therapist should be someone you trust and feel comfortable with. Often, a 15 minute phone call or meeting is a great way to measure compatibility. Reach out to schedule a 15 min session to see if we may be a great fit.
What credentials should I look for in a therapist?
When looking for a therapist, it's crucial to ensure they have the necessary credentials to practice. A therapist should be licensed by the state where they practice, which usually requires a master's degree in counseling, social work, or a related field, supervised clinical experience, and passing a licensing exam.
How do I know if therapy is working?
Therapy is working when you experience noticeable improvements in your mental and emotional well-being, such as feeling less stressed, anxious, or depressed, and when you develop better coping mechanisms and healthier relationships. You may also notice changes in your thoughts, behaviors, and overall approach to life. Progress is not always linear, and therapy often follows a two step forward one step back pattern. However, you should feel confident to ask about progress or concerns at any time with a therapist.
